- Dương tính:
Phát hiện Vibrio cholerae, định danh chủng O1/O139 nếu có.

- Âm tính:
Không phát hiện V. cholerae – loại trừ nguyên nhân tả

- Bệnh nhân bị tiêu chảy cấp nghi do tả.
- Người trong vùng có dịch hoặc tiếp xúc với người mắc bệnh.
- Trường hợp tiêu chảy có yếu tố dịch tễ hoặc nghi ngờ nhiễm khuẩn kháng thuốc.
