Xét nghiệm Protein S tự do giúp đánh giá nguy cơ hình thành huyết khối do thiếu hụt Protein S – một chất chống đông tự nhiên của cơ thể. Xét nghiệm này giúp đánh giá nguy cơ rối loạn đông máu, thường được chỉ định cho những Người có tiền sử gia đình bị rối loạn đông máu, hoặc những Người đã từng bị các biến chứng liên quan đến huyết khối mà không rõ nguyên nhân.

Giá trị bình thường của Protein S tự do: 60-140%.

Giảm Protein S tự do:
Nguyên nhân giảm Protein S: Thiếu di truyền (đột biến gen PROS1); Huyết khối cấp tính (DVT, thuyên tắc phổi) ; Dùng thuốc Warfarin – Giảm tổng hợp Protein S tại gan; Bệnh gan nặng (xơ gan, suy gan) – Giảm tổng hợp Protein S; Đông máu nội mạch lan tỏa (DIC) – Tiêu thụ Protein S; Hội chứng thận hư (Nephrotic Syndrome) – Mất Protein S qua nước tiểu; Mang thai, dùng thuốc tránh thai hoặc liệu pháp hormone estrogen – Giảm Protein S tạm thời.

- Thiếu nhẹ (40-60%): Có thể không có triệu chứng, nhưng vẫn có nguy cơ huyết khối.
- Thiếu trung bình (20-40%): Nguy cơ cao bị huyết khối tĩnh mạch sâu hoặc thuyên tắc phổi.

- Ngưng dùng thuốc chống đông (Warfarin) ít nhất 2 tuần trước xét nghiệm (nếu có thể). - Không cần nhịn ăn. - Tránh căng thẳng, tập thể dục nặng trước lấy máu.
